Alumnae Spotlight

During the season of giving, we take time to recognize alumnae across the generations who have generously given back to their alma mater.

This month we recognize Angela Stanfel ’81 and Veronica Gomez ’11. Veronica says, “When you receive something so good and the community is still involved in your life, you have to give back.”

In Veronica’s four years here, she was an outstanding Ambassador and ASB Officers, and she served on student council for all four years.

Veronica continues, “Yes, I received many opportunities, and many good things from ICA but I need to do the same thing, it’s being able to pay it forward.”

Angela Stanfel has been a generous donor since graduating from ICA in 1981. She tells us, “As a graduate of ICA I am proud and honored to give back to my alma mater. While at ICA, I gained a great spirituality, lifelong friends, and four years that I call some of the best in my life.”

Angela’s pride for her alma mater is strong. She goes on, “How many women can say that the high school they attended is still opened and serving young woman in such a positive way?”

We give thanks to our alumnae throughout the years who so generously give back to their alma mater.

Faculty Corner

A true believer in ICA Cristo Rey Academy’s bright future, Mary Cerutti, the Academic Vice Principal, has invested 36 years of her professional career in our school. She notes with pride that throughout leadership changes and transitions, “What has been most important always is the teaching and the learning.”

Mary transitioned from her role as full-time classroom teacher to dividing her time between teaching and development, then to a role as Academic Vice Principal and upper-division English teacher a few years before the school joined the Cristo Rey Network. Through it all, she felt decisions consistently focused on doing what was best for the students in front of us, as well as for those we hadn’t yet met, but would welcome into our community. She believes ICA Cristo Rey Academy has been worth the investment she has made over her career: “I have stayed here longer than perhaps than I originally imagined because of the focus on high-quality curriculum and instruction. The students’ education here encompasses not only their six academic subjects, but also the experiences they have in the world of their work.”
