Student at Immaculate Conception Academy Appears on Oprah Winfrey Network and Miss Representation Do / October 31, 2011
Maria Contreras, a student at Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA Cristo Rey), a Catholic college preparatory school in San Francisco, recently appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). She joined a panel speaking on the documentary Miss Representation, directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

Immaculate Conception Academy, an all-girls, Catholic, college preparatory, school in San Francisco, has lowered annual tuition to $2,900. At the Board of Directors’ meeting on November 17, they determined to make this change, decreasing tuition by $1,100. This change has made Immaculate Conception Academy the most affordable college preparatory high school in the Bay Area.

Two students from Immaculate Conception Academy participated in a Community Conversation with Isabel Wilkerson on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Wilkerson, a Pulitzer Prize winner, is the author of The Warmth of Other Sons. The gathering took place at the World Affairs Council in San Francisco. Kabria Pitts ‘12 and Aleyda DeGracia ‘13 had the chance to go on stage and ask Wilkerson questions about her book, which tells the story of Africa-Americans who migrated from the South to the North-East and West of the United States from 1915-1970 in order to find a better life.
