Learning in Action

Spanish Class

Immaculate Conception Academy offers its students the study of French and Spanish as a fulfillment of its graduation requirement, and also to comply with the State colleges’ requirement for admission. The four-level courses in both languages are designed for those young women who wish to continue studying their chosen foreign language beyond the required two years. This is an option strongly encouraged by the department for those students who are college bound.

The department believes that the complete course of study in all four levels of foreign languages offered enables the student to acquire the necessary skills to communicate effectively in all areas of life. We believe that through the study of foreign languages, the school offers its students the key to a world outside the boundaries of their environment. We believe that the mastery of any foreign language is basic, essential and indispensable not only for its utilitarian purposes, but also for personal growth, and the formation of the social sensitivity necessary to function in a society composed of the many varied cultures as exists in the state of California.

It is hoped that through the familiarity with foreign languages and their respective cultures, the students will help to break the barriers of cultural isolation, thereby fulfilling the Gospel message of understanding and acceptance of the varied people comprising our area. We further believe that the study of a foreign language facilitates more opportunities for future employment in a rapidly changing world.
