ENGINEERS ALLIANCE FOR THE ARTS

The Engineers Alliance for the Arts (EAA), was founded by a group of leading San Francisco Bay Area structural engineers. The program integrates a handson approach to education. Professional structural engineers volunteer once a week, for 6 to 8 weeks, to come into the classroom to teach high school students the basics of bridge construction.

“Through an interdisciplinary curriculum that uses the visual arts an as entry point to the world of structural engineering, EAA targets; inspires and educates tomorrow's leaders in structural engineering and related technical fields by modeling an exciting curriculum that hits deep into both academic and artistic areas of study.”

PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS

Past and ongoing participating schools are: School of the Arts High School, Academy of Arts & Sciences at SOTA, George Washington High School, Abraham Lincoln High School, John 0'Connell High School, Raoul Wallenberg High School, and Immaculate Conception Academy, the only all girl high school that has participated in the bridge competition for the past 2 years and, who looks forward to this years competition.

FINAL EVENT

Teams from the participating schools present their bridges at a culminating event in the auditorium of PG&E's historic building at 245 Market Street, San Francisco.

A panel of structural engineers, architects, contractors and artists judge the bridges based on both structural and aesthetic elements, including written and oral presentations.

Parents, teachers and the community are-invited to an inspiring and fun all-day presentation, award ceremony and reception.

ICA has come in First and Second Place for the past two years, competing against several other schools in the Bay Area.

We are very proud of our accomplishments and of what we have learned and look forward to the 2008 Three Brick Competition.
