CSUEB Athletics
Winter was another victorious season for Cal State East Bay Athletics! Both the men's and women's basketball teams qualified for the California Pacific Conference Championships. The men finished second in the conference, while leading the nation in steals and turnover margin in the NAIA Division II. Senior Mike Wood broke a 31-year-old career scoring school record by connecting on a total of 1,510 career points. Wood will graduate this spring with Academic All America honors. The women's team finished in a tie for third place in the conference, marking the eighth straight year it has qualified for post season. Women's swimming finished eighth at the NAIA National Championships as four members of the team earned All America honors.

New Nursing Program at Concord Campus
California State University, East Bay's Concord Campus will be offering a four year bachelor of science in nursing degree (BSN) starting with the fall 2006 academic quarter. Contra Costa County, home to Cal State East Bay's Concord Campus, has long faced a shortage of nurses. The problem has been compounded by a lack of public BSN degree programs in the county. In order to address these critical local needs, Cal State East Bay will offer its accredited and highly successful pre-licensure BSN program to students at the Concord campus. Currently, the program is only offered at the Hayward Hills campus. The CSUEB Concord campus BSN program will be supported in part by a $1.7 million grant from John Muir Health. The 2006 academic year will see the opening of the Wayne and Gladys Valley Business and Technology Center, a major expansion of the University Union, and a new student housing complex, with over 200 spaces set aside exclusively for first time freshman.
