ICA’S Celebration of Health and Wellness
April 3 – April 7, 2006
The first week of April marks ICA’s celebration and promotion of positive health behaviors. In conjunction with Tuesday’s Health Fair, the class of 2009 will sponsor a week-long promotion of nutrition, fitness, and overall health. This week will contain events such as:
Open Gym! Every day during lunch, 9th graders will be available to help students find appropriate target heart rate zones, perform strength training exercises safety, and perform effective warm up and cool down exercises
Health and Nutrition Information! Important and interesting facts about health and wellness will be posted so students’ health awareness will be encouraged
Daily Promotion of Positive Nutrition Practices! Every day of the week will promote a specific nutrition theme:
Monday: “Moo Moo Monday!” Emphasis on calcium and protein rich foods
Tuesday: “Totally Grain Tuesday!” Emphasis on whole grain foods
Wednesday: “You’re Sweet Enough!” Challenging students to reduce intake of candy, soda, and junk foods
Thursday: “You Need the Greens! Thursday” Emphasis on salads and vegetables
Friday: “Juicy Fruity Friday!” Emphasis on fresh fruit
Give me Color! Card: Each day of the week students can choose to take a color card and check off the colors they consume in their meals for that day. The more colorful the meals, the healthier you’re becoming!
Please encourage your daughter to practice healthy eating habits and to participate in the week’s events.
If you are a parent interested in participating on ICA’s Nutrition and Wellness Committee, please email Carolyn Sideco or phone 415-824-2052 x18.
