FLAME Program - Academic Studies

Some students will be put in the Academic Studies Class to help them improve their overall school performance. In the Academic Studies class, the students will be learning and then utilizing techniques that will prepare you for the school year, and beyond. This course is designed for students to examine and practice skills they need to assess, assimilate and understand information in content area classes.

Classes are organized as lectures, computer projects, content area work, and hands on activities. Opportunities are provided for students to become actively engaged in the learning process, with the goal of turning theory into practice. Students will be required to bring assignments to work on in class each day.

Services Provided:

  • Collaboration with classroom teachers for special accommodations as specified in assessment.
  • Explanation of assessment with emphasis on strengths, areas needing improvement and the development of compensation skills.
  • Individual instruction in study skills and testing strategies.
  • Individual instruction in critical thinking skills.

There is tutoring available every day provided there are no scheduled meetings. I encourage students to take advantage of after-school help. It provides an excellent opportunity to get individual help in completing assignments and preparing for tests.
