CSBR ESSAY AND POSTER CONTESTS ADDRESS STATE AND NATIONAL SCIENCE STANDARDS

This year’s CSBR Poster and Essay Contests should not only be fun for students, but a relief for educators searching for unique ways to get California and Nevada students to write about science and meet the state and national science standards.  This year’s Essay and Poster Contests have upgraded its prizes to include $200 and $100 savings bonds for the first and second place winners, respectively.  In addition, sponsoring teachers of the winners will each receive a gift certificate.

The theme for the Poster Contest, which has a competition level for 7th and 8th grade students and for high school students, is “The Expanding Circle of Biomedical Research”.  “Biomedical Research – Weighing the Risks” is the theme for the Essay Contest.  Both contests address investigating a science-based societal issue by researching the literature, analyzing data, and communicating the findings.

The deadline for submitting entries for either contest is February 2, 2007.  All entries become property of CSBR and will not be returned.  For more details, visit our website (www.ca-biomed.org/csbr/teachers.php), contact our office at dglaspey@ca-biomed.org.
