Clothing 1 904000
Two Semesters 10, 11, 12
Note: This class fulfills the one-year ICA arts graduation requirement, but not the UC or CSU fine arts requirement.
Clothing 1 emphasizes the basic concepts of garment construction. It includes the care and use of the sewing machine and the techniques in clothing construction as they apply to simple fabrics. The student will learn cutting and marking techniques, basting and fitting, and the selection and alteration of commercial patterns. Pressing techniques will be explored. Quilting techniques will also be taught.

Clothing II 904200
Two Semesters 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Credit in Clothing I
Clothing II is designed to increase the skills taught in Clothing I. The course introduces students to wools and knits. The student learns basic tailoring techniques and stretch construction for knits using the overlock/serger machine.

Clothing III 904300
Two Semesters 11, 12
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
Clothing III provides an advanced study in alterations, using the computer to design and alter a garment. The student also learns to do machine embroidery.

Developmental Psychology of Children 702001
Spring Semester 10, 11, 12 UC/CSU
Fulfills one semester of the one year UC/CSU "g." requirement
Note: Students who enroll in this course must also enroll in Psychology; see Social Studies Department
Child Development sensitizes the student to the human development cycle from conception to age 10. The student gains a keener understanding of the physical, emotional, social and intellectual factors essential to the development of a healthy child.

Interior Design/Independent Living 905000
Two Semesters 10, 11, 12
Note: Interior Design fulfills half of the one-year ICA arts graduation requirement, but not the UC or CSU fine arts requirement
Interior Design prepares students to decorate the interior of a home. The student will work with colors, line, design and fabrics. She will also learn to read architectural drawings and to design and decorate her dream home by the end of the semester. No art or drawing experience is required.
Independent Living is designed to help students acquire all the skills necessary to live on their own effectively. The student will learn how to rent an apartment, read a lease, balance a checking account, do comparison shopping and undertake other survival skills.

Working with Young Children 908000
Two Semesters 11, 12
This class is an intern program which allows ICA students to experience working with elementary school students at St. James School. Students will go one period a day to St. James to work as a teacher's aide in grades K to 4, with a supervising teacher. Students will be expected to meet one day a week at lunch to discuss assignments, problems, etc., with the rest of the interns. Students interested in entering job fields involving children will find this class very valuable and a good first experience in working with children.
